LAST GASP: Live From Manhattan Avenue, Part II

August 29, 2011 ·

(Or: Special Delivery)

As some of you have probably noticed earlier today I posted footage of a man who decided to sit in the middle of the street and block traffic. Well, shortly thereafter I noticed a couple of NYPD patrol cars canvassing the area. I am pleased to announce that as of 7:00 p.m. they got their man! Sort of.

I do not post this footage with the intent of criticizing the 94th Precinct. They have a job to do— and regrettably handling individuals who are clearly mentally ill has become one of their responsibilities. Rather, I have to wonder about the effectiveness of a rehabilitation facility— one which is funded in part by our tax dollars, I’ll add— when someone under their care requires a police motorcade to get back home. Clearly whatever this facility is doing is not working— and sadly it is probably only a matter of time before this man gets hurt.

I have been hearing a great deal of buzz about this today. Thankfully someone on Brooklynian Forum has stepped forward to give a basic rundown of what happened. Without further ado, here it is:

Hopefully the folks at the 94th will tell us more at this evening’s, Stand Up! Speak Out! event. In the meantime, be careful out there folks!

THIS WEEK: Bicycle Registration!

This item comes courtesy of my friend and bicycle enthusiast Christine. This upcoming Friday, August 26, the folks at the 94th will be registering bicycles from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. As the flier states, this service is totally free and in the event your bicycle is stolen— and the police locate it— this will ensure its safe return to you, it’s rightful owner. Given how endemic bicycle theft is hereabouts those of you who have bicycles really should take the time to get your rides registered. TO REPEAT: this service is totally free!

Tons of cops at RUMBLERS car show.

Escorting cars out … Skaters at the other end are fine but cars being guided out

The word is a “hells angel” punched a cop…

Shirt says when in doubt knock out… Maybe not a cop…

UPDATE, 6:52 p.m.: All is quiet…

UPDATE, 10:40 p.m.: I have the 411 about what happened from D. I. Hurson himself! He writes:

Miss Heather I noticed you have pictures of the car show. The event was larger then allowed. They were permitted for only two blocks but it stretched from Union to Manhattan ave. Several cars and motorcycles started drag racing.  I ordered the event closed early and dispersed the crowd we made two arrest and issued numerous summonses. We will not allow them to get a permit next year.

UPDATE, August 21, 2011 12:20 p.m.: An anonymous tipster writes:

Hi, I would like it if you could add the following video to your story of the police shutting down the Rumblers car show on Saturday, August 20th, 2011. In the commanding officer’s statement he said that he ordered the show to be shut down due to “Several cars and motorcycles started drag racing.” Yet in this youtube video clip (Which dates from 2008 —Ed. Note), the police are the ones doing a burn out, and driving recklessly through a crowded street at The Rumblers Car Show.

New York Shitty Day Starter: An Update Regarding The Robbery At 93 Nassau Avenue

This morning I awakened to find an email from Deputy Inspector Hurson of the 94th Precinct. I am pleased to pass along that one of the men responsible for last week’s robbery/shooting has been apprehended! His name is Alex Lagoa and he was released five years ago after serving a twenty year sentence for murder. It should be noted he shot no less than two police officers while being arrested for the aforementioned crime. Yikes!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: A(nother) Robbery At HSBC?

June 30, 2011 ·
Filed under: 11211, Criminal Activity, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn

A couple days ago it was brought to my attention by a reliable source that an attempted bank robbery came to pass at HSBC on Bedford Avenue. Well, per the following item (which was forwarded to me by an anonymous tipster) this would in fact appear to be the case:

The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the following individual wanted in connection with an attempted bank robbery in the confines of the 94 Pct.  The circumstances are as follows:

On Monday, June  27, 2011 at approximately 1139 hours inside of 252 Bedford Ave (HSBC Bank), suspect entered the location, passed a demand note to the teller and when he did not receive money, he fled the location in an unknown direction.

Suspect is described as a M/H/40-45, approximately 5’9″, 190lbs, last seen wearing a black t-shirt, short black jeans, a gray fishermen hat and sunglasses…

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

All calls are strictly confidential.

As some of you might recall, there was another robbery at this same location a few months ago.
