Greenpoint Street Seating Watch: 25 Days Later
Filed under: 11222, Feral Furniture, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Street Furniture
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of playing tour guide for a New School student who is studying our fair burgh. I concluded our jaunt around the Garden Spot with a visit to yours truly’s favorite piece of street seating. As you can see it has been, um, marked.

Reader Comments du Jour: Regarding St. Anthony’s ChipIn Page
As I announced last week, the ChipIn page for St. Anthony’s Church is up. One commenter, nobikesonfance, noted that no contributions had been made and had some questions. Here they are:
Just wanted to confirm. The Chipin link is the official St. Anthony’s online contribution method? I was going to make a contribution but saw that the amount was still at $0 and wasn’t sure if it was being used.
I have been told by the woman who has set up this page (and put me in touch with St. Anthony’s in the first place), Laura, that this page has been de-bugged and two people have donated no less that $100 each! She writes:
Hi Everyone,
The ChipIn page is up and running and the donations are already coming in! It’s so great to see the community rally around this cause. As Heather mentioned I am a parishoner at St. Anthony’s, but almost more importantly a fellow Greenpointer who misses things like this that make our community unique.
If there is anything I can do to help you spread the word about this project, please let me know!
So there have you.

New York Shitty Day Ender: The Conversation
Given all the talk about truck traffic and the diversion of vehicular traffic from Nassau Avenue to Norman Avenue at this week’s Transportation Committee meeting you can imagine, gentle readers, how fascinating I found the above bit of gridlock (as spied at approximately 1:00 this afternoon). As you can see there are two truck on Norman Avenue (which, it should be noted, is to be used for making deliveries only). They are not making deliveries. Rather, their drivers are having a conversation. One which they (finally) decided to terminate once a motorist on Newel Street resumed her salvo of honking.

New York Shitty Slide Show du Jour: Found At Prospect Park

These guys (and gals)!
I will not lie to you: yours truly has been in an exceptionally bad mood today. However, who can resist cracking a smile when she had the honor of doing the “lunchtime” shift for a quartet of kittens found recently in (get this) a wood-chipper at Prospect Park? Thankfully for these little ones they were brought to the attention of a Parks employee/fellow Greenpointer named Jonathan and now call the Garden Spot their home. Eventually they will be seeking a permanent place to hang their hats*— but in the meantime behold the mind-boggling cuteness for yourself!

For those of you who are keeping track, this makes three times I have walked by the Thai Cafe and found “feral food”.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Presentation Regarding Concerts at East River State Park & The Northside Festival
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Given the complaints tendered at the last Community Board meeting regarding the concerts at East River State Park (and banter about banning them) I feel compelled to pass along this item. On May 3rd starting at 6:30 p.m., our Parks Advocate/Parks employee, Stephanie Thayer, along with a few other folks from Open Space Alliance North Brooklyn and the New York City Parks Department will be giving a presentation regarding the concerts slated to grace north Brooklyn this upcoming summer. Those of you who have had issues with these events in the past or simply want to learn more about them should make it a point to attend— and ask questions!*

*Here are a few for those who might feel inclined to ask:
- What measures will be put in place so as to mitigate the impact on the surrounding community, e.g.; noise abatement, trash pick-up, crowd control, etc.?
- What measures will be taken to ensure that issues which may arise at other park spaces will be addressed in a timely fashion? Or to put it differently: with the summer being peak season (and as such is more likely to have maintenance issues), how will a balance be achieved between operating these concerts and managing our parks?
- Exactly how much money is raised by these concerts for our parks versus money/manpower outlay-ed? Ask for specific figures.
- How have the aforementioned funds raised been allocated to date?
