Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Separated At Barf?

When I was an undergraduate in art school my teachers frequently pestered me for not signing my work. I didn’t engage in this practice for two reasons:

  1. Over the years it had come to my attention that the size/elaborateness of the signature on a piece of art work was inversely related to the quality of said work.
  2. I had the presence of mind to know that 10-15 years down the line I would be appalled by my student work and destroy it. (And that is exactly what came to pass.)

Which brings me to this.

I’m not in a particular chatty mood today but I couldn’t resist passing along these baby shit-hued beauties from the ‘burg. I fear this trend of going green (albeit via stucco) might be gaining momentum. Inasmuch as it pains me to write this the latter may very well be the least unattractive addition to what may very be one of the ugliest blocks in Williamsburg. Meet 253 Skillman Avenue’s neighbor.

Who wouldn’t want a balcony with scenic views of this?

Although this flier (which hails from Graham Avenue and Richardson Street) is a week old I am going to post it anyway. If this lovely lady is yours— or you wish to give her a forever home— please contact her rescuer at the above telephone number.

Thanks!

P.S.: On a related note, tomorrow Muddy Paws will be hosting an adoption event tomorrow, October 11, starting at 2:00 p.m.

Erma (the woman behind this fabulous door which I posted back in August) writes:

first i wanna thank you for posting our door i wanted to know as we change the door if you were gonna post it. this way i can email you when we change it rather than leaving a comment on the website. alot of people come to the house to look at the door cause they saw it on your website.

I finally had the time to swing by today. It’s really neat!

I realize the glare makes these images somewhat difficult to discern. Go to 180 Frost Street and see it for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

The purpose of this post is two fold: shameless self-promotion (albeit for a cause— somewhat) and giving (long overdue) props to wonderful lady who— if I remember correctly— coined the term “stray cat strut” (for posts of a feline nature). I’ll start with the latter first:

Her name is Jennifer. She operates a site called Last Night’s Dinner. She resides in Rhode Island (or as I prefer to see it: she is a Brooklyn ex-pat operative in Rhode Island). Jennifer is a cat lover par excellence. She is also a damned good chef. And last month she received some very well deserved (and long overdue) press:

PROVO

You can read this tome in its entirety by clicking here. Otherwise you can view the many culinary creations of Jennifer (and the occasional glimpse of her pussies, including June Bug who hails from Bushwick, Brooklyn U.S.A.) by clicking here. WAY TO GO, JEN! I think the Mister wants to marry you for your personality pork burgers.

Otherwise, I am proud to announce that I will be having an exhibition of my photography at Greenpoint’s very own TBD this December! The general premise/theme will be “(People) In My Neighborhood”. The details have yet to finessed (because I have to finesse them) but there will be an opening and all the works contained therein will be for sale.

I intend to allocate a portion of the proceeds to causes I am particularly fond of. Empty Cages Collective (whose rusty tabby graces this post) will be one of them. The Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen will be another. That’s the short list. Although I am a self-professed cat lady, I have no intention of leaving my canine compatriots out in the cold!

More details to follow.
