Although I have featured this item already (albeit via a slide show) I have since decided something this cringe-worthy does, indeed, merit its own post. Here it is. Anyone care to perform a little Photoshop magic on this bad boy? If so, please send your masterpieces to: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.

Please keep your files at 1200 x 900 pixels or less. Thanks!

Kicking off this week (and closing out my photo walk with Carnade, who took this great photo) is this image of three good buddies enjoying a lovely Saturday afternoon on Hart Street.

That’s right, today is the birthday of none other than THE webmaster of Forgotten New York (and inspiration to yours truly and many others) Kevin Walsh. This one’s for you— and I wish you many more!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: A Dispatch From Engert Avenue

E writes (in regards to this post):

Miss Heather,

I have no idea if this is coincidence or not but last night around 4am we had a break in at our building 76 Engert Ave, a group of young Hispanic teens buzzed their way into our building and took over our lobby (no doorman or anything) and ran down to our storage units and stole a bike and large box of containing personal items to one of the tenants here. I recovered the box but the bike is gone. Called the cops, they came and I went with them to indentify the kids since I only saw their backs as they were running and they were teenage Hispanic kids, the cop kept asking them what they were doing all the way over here and I heard one of them say they were at a party…..

If there is a lesson to be learned here it is: if you live in a building such as this do NOT blindly buzz people in.Have your guests call when they arrive and then buzz them in— or better yet: meet them in the lobby and let them in personally. While this may seen like an inconvenience, the fact is it will help prevent opportunistic crimes such this. What’s more, this is not just about property. It is about protecting the personal safety of your friends and neighbors. Be a good neighbor: keep a watchful eye on who gains access to your building.

Crosstown Local Photos Du Jour: Waiting

When I took the above shot I accidentally bumped into a young woman. After apologizing I explained:

Whenever they suspend G train service I like to take pictures of all the happy people waiting for the shuttle bus.

She laughed. And I added:

It’s like something from the Great Depression. These people look like they want to shove the barrel in their mouths and pull the trigger.

She replied:

You should email that to the MTA.

Perhaps I will?

Williamsburg Video Du Jour: Après Moi le Deluge

As yours truly inexorably creeps closer to middle age, I have achieved a certain level of acceptance about life. For example:

  1. I have grown to accept I will never be a millionaire. Money always has been and always will be a concern for me.
  2. I will never win the Nobel Prize. Not that I have really tried, mind you. I am, by my own admission a colossal UNDERachiever.
  3. I have pretty much (by)passed all the milestones people hold near and dear. All I have left to do is die— which brings me to the video you just watched.

I would like to take a moment to applaud the New York City Parks Department for awakening me from my existentialist funk by reminding me that I am in no hurry whatsoever to accomplish point #3. In fact, I have never felt so alive as I did this afternoon while patronizing this public lavatory at Jamie Campiz Playground and praying to god* I would not be electrocuted.

Sincerely grateful,

Miss Heather

*Given I am an agnostic this is truly noteworthy.
