It’s been awhile since I have checked in on my favorite urban artifact/Greenpoint citizen: Jailbear. Today I opted to swing by and see what’s up. It did not disappoint.
He has been presented two new offerings: a lovely candy dish and souvenir spoon holder from Hawaii.
They’re very nice.
Long live Jailbear!

What does one give the man who has everything for his birthday? A man who, had he not been born— and made some interesting life choices (I prefer “detours”)— yours truly probably would not have been either? This one is for the man who gave me the gift of gab. The one who was quite happy to let me— a GIRL— play with Erector sets, Legos, and showed me— much to my mother’s consternation— how to make and ignite gunpowder. The one who was not shy to “start shit”. The one who demonstrated to me how to berate public officials. In neatly written paragraphs using a cadence and vocabulary rarely seen— much less read— nowadays. The one who wrote this recently:
The reason Politicians (that’s not a typo— Ed. Note) try so hard to get re-elected is that they would ‘hate’ to have to make a living under the laws they’ve passed.
This one’s for you, Dad. Better one day late than never!
