From The New York Shitty Inbox: Sunflowers For The Garden Spot?
Morning Miss Heather,
I’ve been living in Greenpoint for the past 4 years now and follow your blog regularly. For the past year I’ve been giving away free sunflowers all over greenpoint, to young and old, greenpointer and new yorkers. I feel the greenpoint (especially) needs color and the perfect way to accomplish this is through sunflowers. I raise baby sunflowers from seeds and then give them away, in turn spreading the wealth of color. It’s time to go to the next level though. So, is there any kind of funding that the NY Parks dept can supply? If so, how could I propose a plan for funding…
I think this is a terrific endeavor, Matt. And while I do not know how one goes about securing funding for such projects, I know a number of people reading this blog do. If anyone has advice for Matt please tender them via comment or email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. I will gladly forward them. Otherwise you can read more about Matt’s project by clicking here.

These blossoms hail from Oak Street and come courtesy of algul siento. Now if we have a little sunshine and some sixty degree weather (which is supposed to happen tomorrow) we’ll be all aces.

A city that never sleeps?!? I beg to differ. If north Brooklyn is any indication they’re sleeping all over the damned place. I christen this arrangement (a chaise lounge replete with pillow and comforter) the Metroproletariat Hostel.
