LAST GASP: Great Moments In (anti)Viral Marketing

This afternoon yours truly spent the afternoon tidying Chez Shitty. As always it was a journey of discovery. It was under a pile of books I found the following item: one of the many treasures I have gleaned from the junk shop over the years.

This may look like an ordinary book of matches (that’s what I thought). I can assure you this is not the case.

And now the reveal.

Naturally I had to learn more about Elegant Limo Service. Alas, their web site is no longer with us. But I did find a curious inquiry on Yahoo Answers:

Me and my sister are throwing a surprise birthday party for our Mother’s 50th birthday.. We would like for a limo to pick her up from her work to bring her to the surprise party. She is very special to us and want to go all out.

I wonder how it went? I suppose we’ll never know. To close on a related note here’s another choice find from the junk shop.

Kicking it old school style in grandma’s parlor! Is that a bottle of Schlitz I spy in this impish lass’s hand?

Urban Fur: One Up, One Down

This handsome chap is named Bill. As you can see he has taken interest in the king-sized trucker bomb in front of him (which can be found at the intersection of Driggs Avenue and North 8 Street). I can’t honestly say I blame him. Either the author of this item has a bladder fit for the record books or it was a, uh, multilateral effort.

Damn.

Daily Bloomblight: 114 North 7 Street

Many of you are probably familiar with Sevenberry. It is one of the many edifices designed by north Brooklyn’s good friend Karl Fischer. As its name indicates this condominium is located at the corner of North 7 Street and Berry Street. Pretty clever wordplay if I may so myself— although it should be noted that “Barfeater” (which can be found inscribed in the sidewalk just outside the entrance of this building) does have a certain ring to it. But this post isn’t about Sevenberry or some anonymous person’s culinary proclivities. It is about Sevenberry’s neighbor: 114 North 7 Street.

After I took the above photographs a passerby stopped, surveyed the scene and asked:

How did this happen?

Neglect.

I replied.

Then he proceeded to ask me if I owned this property. I assured him that I did not possess the means to own such a parcel (wish I did— have the money, that is) but if I did it wouldn’t look like this.

He was just as troubled as I was when he noticed the fence in the rear had collapsed as well. Welcome to the “new” Williamsburg.

Who wouldn’t want a patio looking at this crap pile? But cry over spilled milk? Let’s have some fun instead. Anyone care to give this piece of Bloomblight a snappy name (like its neighbor)? If so, you can kick things off via comments.

Spotted On Manhattan Avenue: Thrift With Benefits

As I was running errands today I noticed the storefront at 570 Manhattan Avenue has a new tenant: Fox & Fawn.

Also known as home to Heaven Street Records.

I didn’t have time to pop in today (I was growing tired of my umbrella being blown open repeatedly and as a result vowed to get my chores completed and GO HOME). But I do plan to give this, Greenpoint’s newest business(es), a look-see in the next day or two. In the meantime if anyone has the 411 about this establishment please share via the comments.

New York Shitty Video Du Jour: St. Mark’s Place Fashion Watch

As many of you have noticed the weather has been quite nasty the last few days. So much so that yours truly has been staying indoors. I can handle rain or even snow. But traipsing around in nature’s post-nasal drip leaves much to be desired. Unless, as I learned this weekend, it is done with style.

Saturday night I had to attend a birthday party for a good friend in Manhattan. Given this person is one of my best friends (hell, she was the “best woman” at our wedding) attendance was mandatory. So I bundled up: out came the thermal underwear, heavy coat I had put away only a week ago and so forth. I hardly cut a dashing figure— but that wasn’t the objective. I was more concerned with keeping dry. Unfortunately I neglected to bring an umbrella so all my preparations were rendered moot. If I had to describe the result it would run along the lines of American Playground homeless. It was on St. Mark’s Place that I learned the error of my ways. I should have put on my slinkiest dress, fishnets and stratospheric pumps.

You gotta love New Yorkers. Nothing— not even such a triviality as a flash flood— gets in the way of us promenading and having a good time on a Saturday night. It is yours truly’s sincerest hope this Minnie Pearl look catches on with our fair city’s youth. Umbrellas are for wimps. On that note, dear readers, I am off for a little walk. If tragedy strikes I will endeavor to steal something casual.
