gerryst

Anyone who has seen the building (if one call this Lebanonesque heap of rubble such a thing) will attest that one’s dietary predilections are the least of this location’s problems. I’d even go so far as to say this is one of the biggest eyesores in north Brooklyn. Given the competition, this is no small accomplishment.

flier

When I found this flier on McGuinness Boulevard my curiosity was piqued. Naturally, I looked at their web site to get the 411:

Brooklyn Art Studios is a new artists space in the Greenpoint Industrial Center at 276 Greenpoint Avenue in Greenpoint Brooklyn. We are a collection of professional artists working in a wide range of media. We will be hosting Open Studio events twice a year, and look forward to joining forces with local artists and arts organizations to promote arts in the Greenpoint area.

This sounds to intriguing (and free!) to pass up. Check it out!

legs2

Jay (of Dog Habitat, who forwarded me these photographs) writes:

Found these – a pair of prosthetic legs – on the curb along Mcguinness and Broome St. Not one, but two legs. Maybe they were worn out after the marathon?

…A close up – you can see Millie inspecting the legs. I was walking her for a client when she discovered the limbs. Maybe she’s a cadaver sniffing dog?

Some of you might recall that this makes the second set of prosthetic legs that have been found on north Brooklyn’s streets this week. What gives?

P.S.: On a related note, meet Dog Habitat’s latest rescue: Domino!

Yes, I realize Halloween has come and gone— but I could not resist posting this irresistible gaggle of Jack o’ lanterns from Huron Street. So there!

New York Shitty Slideshow du Jour: American Graffiti

American GraffitiNYS

Today I did something I have longed to do for some time: check out a rather extensive mural located the industrial no man’s land between Long Island City and Sunnyside. As I had long suspected, it was a lot more impressive up close. Although I wasn’t too keen on some of the hawkish content I was really happy I made the walk to see it. Follows is a slide show of the highlights. Enjoy!

As I said before: this is best appreciated in person. Go to the intersection of 35 Street and the Midtown Expressway and see it for yourself!

gptthumbJessica writes (in an email entitled “Have you seen this?):

I saw this post today on gothamist, and my jaw just dropped. A megalith tower on freaking India street???? Are the thousand yuppies stupid enough to buy crappy condos for $750,000 all going to crowd onto the G train? A-holes.

To answer Jessica’s question: yes, I have seen this. I was especially amused by this quote from the developer, one Jonathan Bernstein:

We are asking for radical changes to the zoning, but we do think it’s way different than anything that’s been proposed on the waterfront… We think it will be a gateway to Manhattan and Greenpoint.

New York Shitty analysis: it looks like Long Island City ate a business park and took a shit.
