Hello GFM fans!
After a month hiatus we are happy to return with full force, preparing for the next food market to be held February 13th!
It will be a Valentines Day Extravaganza of sorts, a celebration of all that is nauseating and lovey dovey, highlighting the holiday with a cascade of heart pins, heart on strings, red-tinted EVERYTHING and a kissing photo booth!
The day will feature a cascade of lovely treats: from aphrodisiac inspired recipes to heart shaped cookies, a photo kissing booth courtesy fellow Greenpointers Color Me Katie and Hyla Skopitz, a secret foodmirer bulletin board to share your food crushes and indulgences, and a heart-hunt: find the heart, win a GFM goodie bag. We are also very pleased to present music by DJ Jimmy T and a performance by Rifle Recoil @ 3pm. We are also grateful to add to a growing list of food-related artworks by artists Jessie Oleson and Jesse Kuhn who will share a few prints on food and love!

As promised, here is are some highlights of from my sojourn in the snow. It was nice to see kids (of all ages) out having fun. I regret to inform everyone no snow phalluses have been erected in McCarren Park— yet. But hope springs eternal and the day is still young. Enjoy!

Quicklink: The Great Greenpoint Ugly-Off!
My buddy Joey over at Curbed was kind enough to bring this fugfest featuring two buildings from none other than the Garden Spot of the Universe to my attention. So which excrescence do YOU think is worse: 200 Franklin Street or 524 Manhattan Avenue? Personally (and I write this as the “tipster” mentioned in the photo credits) I lean towards 200 Franklin. It looks like am ionic air purifier date-raped a butt plug. Or as one commenter, Restless, puts it all too eloquently:
I’d be ashamed to be seen entering either one, but have to give the Eye Damage Award to 524 Manhattan — because it looks like Harry was serious, while we all know Karl scribbles his designs in his sleep, as therapy, hoping to transfer his nightmares to the world at large.
