New York Shitty Day Starter: Stray Cat Strut
Filed under: 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
A stare.
A scratch.
A stretch.
A sniff.
And a bath.
These are the cats of Greenpoint’s waterfront and they come courtesy of Greenpointless. Who writes:
…I was so excited that I got them to come near me (with the help of a Cuban sandwich from the Franklin Corner Store) that I just kept snapping.
You can’t blame these felines for having good taste. Methinks a “New Mexico” sandwich with extra jalapenos will help keep me warm today!

P.S.: On a related note, Muddy Paws will be hosting an adoption event featuring this lovely gal today:
Her name is Shardene. She was on death’s doorstep when Lisacat found her. But Shardene is now healthy, spayed and in need of a home. Maybe yours?

Happy Hanukkah From New York Shitty!
Yes, I am all too aware this celebration is well under way. But to set the record straight I was hard-pressed to find a bit of Greenpoint goodness to accompany my well-wishes. Today on Franklin Street this changed. Have a happy and safe one, my Jewish friends— and give that dreidel a whirl for me!

Greenpoint Photos Du Jour: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Nothing says the holiday season is in full swing in the Garden Spot of the Universe like an epidemic of “sticky fingers”. This having been stated, I have no idea what “touch your ass” means. What’s more, I don’t care to find out!

Tis The Season: 57 Franklin Street
Those of you who frequent Franklin Street have probably noticed this house. While not terribly remarkable (there are many like it in Greenpoint) the owners spare no time and expense on seasonal decor. Be it Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas, these people celebrate with style!
A retinue of snowmen meets and greets passersby.
A stoop festooned with candy canes…
and much…
much more!
I love these little guys. And last, but hardly least, my personal favorite…
Hundreds of little snowflakes, jingle bells and icicles grace the trees! If you have the time and wherewithal to brave this downright brutal chill do swing by and see this festive display of holiday cheer in person. TIP: it’s even more impressive at night!

P.S.: On an unrelated note, today’s offerings will be decidedly lite. I have a lot of work to get caught up on before this busy pre-holiday weekend— including get a donation together for the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Holiday Flea Market!
A Williamspoint PSA: The Cooper Bark Calendars Are In!
Filed under: 11211, 11222, East Williamsburg, East Williamsburg Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Needless to say when I received word from the head honcho of the Cooper Park Dog Run that the 2010 Dogs of Cooper Bark calendars are in I simply had to pass it along here. The purchasers of this delightful and very affordable product (they’re priced at a measly $15.00 a pop!) will not only have the some of Williamspoint’s most comely canines grace their wall for an entire year, they will also be supporting a wonderful cause: a portion of the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Cooper Park Dog Run! In years past these calendars have provided funding for such improvements as new fencing and furniture. Why not lend ’em a hand (or would that be paw?) this year and purchase one of these calendars? They make great gifts!
Interested parties can purchase the Dogs of Cooper Bark calendar at Muddy Paws:
447 Graham Avenue
Brooklyn, New York 11211
or online via paypal at: info@cooperbark.org
Be sure to include your name, contact information and an additional $5.00 (making the grand total $20.00) for shipping and handling.

THIS WEEKEND: Holiday Foodtacular
As if there was not enough shaking this upcoming weekend I have another item to pass along: the Greenpoint Food Market’s Holiday Foodtacular. Here’s the 411 per their press release:
We are OH so proud and excited to present the next Greenpoint Food Market, DECEMBER 19th!!
It’s that time of year when cash flows freely all for the sake of showing some love for our friends and family and there’s certainly no better way to show you care than showering them with delicious foodstuffs to be graciously devoured. We will be decorating the church to show off our giddy festivities and share what each vendor has to offer straight from their kitchen to you.
Greenpoint Food Market will show some love to our supporters by giving away gifts from our neighborhood staples like Cafe Grumpy, t.b.d., Word Bookstore, Cafecito Bogota, Kill Devil Hill, Five Leaves and more! We are beyond grateful for this support and opportunity from our local businesses!!
We are also very proud to present a performance from that piano guy you see playing often at union square! You know, he rolls around a piano in the city and plays the craziest skilled songs with his nimble fingers. Colin Huggins is the man behind the keys and he will be accompanied by tap dancers to blow us away with beats and song!
Also nod that head and tap some toes while listening to some sounds and beats moderated by Greenpoint’s own DJ Jimmy T and his Electric Cowbell. There will records from their new label Electric Cowbell Records available for sale!
To see the rather extensive list of participating vendors, click here. Take my word for it: there’s something for everyone!
