Adoptable Cutie: Meet Pancakes

July 7, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic

This handsome little man was brought to my attention by our new vet, Brad. Pancakes along with his siblings, which seem to have found a foster home, were found at construction site. He is three months old, sports lovely (and long) black coat and has a clean bill of health! If you would like to give this dapper chap (with a fabulous name) the loving home he deserves please contact his good Samaritan via email at: greenpointkitties (at) gmail (dot) com.

You can see more pictures of Pancakes and his crew by clicking here. WARNING/CAVEAT: do not watch the bathtub video if you averse to extreme cuteness!

Thanks!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Death At McCarren?

The details on this item are scant (as you will see) but here they are. A person we’ll call OK writes:

This am, around 8 or so, cops had a corpse in a body bag waiting for it to be picked up. They were at the usual spot where the drunks / zombies hang out (on the lorimer side).

I’m guessing we’re looking at a case of heat exposure/alcohol poisoning here— but who knows? If what I observed walking around the neighborhood is any indication, the police have been quite busy. If you have the 411 about what happened please share via comments or email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.

Thanks!

Spotted In Greenpoint: Crusties!

Just like the swallows at Capristrano, the crusties are back!

And some of them like flowers! Much to confusion/bemused interest of the local population.

Greenpoint Loses One Of Its Own

July 7, 2010 ·

I felt a pang of sadness when I saw this yesterday evening. I did not know Mike that well. I was only an occasional customer at his establishment: Green Farms Supermarket. When I did he always made me feel welcome. As many who are reading this are all too aware, this cannot be said of a number of Polish-operated establishments hereabouts. He even took the time to help my mother who was looking for some arcane Polish seasoning. After mulling over my mother’s rather vague description he narrowed it down to three possibilities. My mother purchased— and enjoyed— all of them. I remember him mention in passing as we made our purchase that he was considering selling the business. Obviously this never happened.

Thank you for making a Greenpoint “newbie” feel welcome, Mike. My heartfelt feelings go to your friends, family and those who had the honor of knowing you better. You will be missed by more people than you will ever know.

A Green Street PSA: Please

Given this building is located next door to Greenpoint’s pride and joy, The Viridian, methinks it takes very little deduction to figure out yo whom this missive is directed. In light of the fact some Viridian residents saw fit to use the indoor garden used as a doggie dumping ground I wouldn’t bet against it anyway.

From The New York Shitty Photo Pool: Bloomblight With Benefits

When I saw this nondo in my photo pool I recognized it immediately: it graces (?) the corner of Herbert and North Henry Street. What I didn’t know is this hulking eyesore— despite its decrepit condition— has a resident. So it goes in the smash-jaw world of north Brooklyn real estate.

His name is Monkey and he wants it to be known he is not a stray. Special thanks goes out to Lisacat for sharing this important news with us.
