A Williamspoint PSA: The Cooper Bark Calendars Are In!

cooperbark

Needless to say when I received word from the head honcho of the Cooper Park Dog Run that the 2010 Dogs of Cooper Bark calendars are in I simply had to pass it along here. The purchasers of this delightful and very affordable product (they’re priced at a measly $15.00 a pop!) will not only have the some of Williamspoint’s most comely canines grace their wall for an entire year, they will also be supporting a wonderful cause: a portion of the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Cooper Park Dog Run! In years past these calendars have provided funding for such improvements as new fencing and furniture. Why not lend ’em a hand (or would that be paw?) this year and purchase one of these calendars? They make great gifts!

Interested parties can purchase the Dogs of Cooper Bark calendar at Muddy Paws:

447 Graham Avenue
Brooklyn, New York 11211

or online via paypal at: info@cooperbark.org

Be sure to include your name, contact information and an additional $5.00 (making the grand total $20.00) for shipping and handling.

Why not swing by and make the acquaintance of some of the finest felines to grace the Garden Spot of the Universe? Follows is a little footage of Avon (courtesy of Lisacat) to get you in the adoptable cutie spirit!

The Purrrrfect Halloween Kitty: Greenpoint Grace

Remember Ving? If you don’t the following passage might refresh your memory. On June 2, 2009 I wrote:

…Someone, for reasons only known to him, saw fit to shave him: ear hair, whiskers and all.

We eventually drifted onto the subject of what to name this handsome chap. Lisa suggested that since he has been shorn we name him after a famous bald person. I immediately thought of Ving Rhames, as just like in the movie Pulp Fiction this little guy has had an encounter with someone he would just as well forget (WARNING: previous link is very NSFW) and quite frankly, whoever that person is, I too would very much like to go medieval on his ass.

Well, he is a she. Ving is Grace, she’s recovered (under Lisacat’s care) and is downright GORGEOUS!

GRACElisacat

Grace (and a few of her friends) will be holding court at Muddy Paws today starting at 2:00 p.m. She’s been spayed, vaccinated and is feline Leukemia and FIV free.  All she needs is a home— maybe yours?

Hi Miss Heather, If you have a chance, can you post this for my friends Veronica & Lori?

Thanks!

I will gladly give this event a shout out. Not only does the Beaner Bar serve up some incredible tamales (which I have previously featured on this site) but their Mexican style hot chocolate is the perfect companion for this crisp fall weather. Among the goodies offered at this, their first year anniversary celebration, are:

  • Special tamale plates
  • Coffee specials
  • Gift bags
  • Mariachi music
  • And much more!

Check it out— and if you have yet to try their fabulous tamales by all means do so. You will not regret it!

TODAY: Adoptable Cuties At Muddy Paws

The Bountys are a quintet of winsome tabbies that were rescued with the help of crew members from the Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler vehicle being filmed in our ‘hood.

Toytime

Three have been adopted. Two await good homes— maybe yours? First up: Bounty

Why this Greenpoint girlie hasn’t been adopted is beyond me. Bounty is adorable and packs a pint-sized punch!

MILOlisacatNYS

Milo is more pensive— as you can see in the above photograph by Lisacat.

These two Greenpoint cuties (and a few of their feline friends) will be available for adoption today at Muddy Paws. Check it out!

THIS WEEK: Meet “The Bountys”

muddypawsNYS

This upcoming Saturday, August 15, starting at 1:00 p.m. Muddy Paws will be hosting an adoption event featuring some very special felines from none other that the Garden Spot of the Universe!

bountysNYS

The name for this adorable quintet of kitty cuteness is “The Bountys”. I’ll let their founder/stepmom, Orange Genius, tell you their story.

pipeNYS

The Bounty Hunter kittens were living in this big, long cast iron pipe in an industrial lot in Greenpoint. They were playing at the end when I spotted them while I was running. Since I have encountered most of the kittens I’ve rescued while running, it has been suggested to me that I take up running in a gym. On a treadmill. Nobody finds kittens on treadmills.

PiperNYS

That’s Piper, who got her name because she would NOT come out of the pipe, peering out her front door at me when I first saw these kittens. One of her brothers cavorts on the family roof.

foursomeNYS

Four of the five Bounty Hunter kittens that were living in a cast iron pipe in an industrial lot in Greenpoint. The lot is used by film crews and members of the crew of the upcoming move “The Bounty Hunter” helped me and Lisacat get the last two holdouts out of the pipe.

cassNYS

It’s hot in the room where I’m keeping them, and Casidy, named after the Aniston character in the movie, is all stretched out. She’s a very pretty torbie with a patch of orange on her head.

tummyNYS

Still dirty from the lot, Hunter experiments with a life of luxury….

2ozNYS

Milo, top, and Bounty, bottom, were only two ounces apart in weight. But two ounces is a lot when you only weigh a little over a pound.

If the previous photographs (which come courtesy of Orange Genius) are not enough to motivate you to swing by and say “Hi” to these Greenpointers with whiskers* I do not know what will. Too. Cute. For. Words.

Hot Tamale!

May 13, 2009 ·

hot-damnthumbAfter giving the matter considerable thought I have come to the conclusion my life generally revolves around two things:

1. Consuming Mexican food
2.
Searching for more Mexican food to consume

Incomprehensible as it may seem to some of you I not only can but often will eat nothing but Mexican food for days on end. Few things please me for breakfast more than a plate of enchiladas. That is save of course tamales but that’s where I hit an impasse:

1. I’m too lazy to make them.
2.
Most tamales to be found are NOT vegetarian.

Therefore you can imagine my delight when I found the above announcement at the Beaner Bar. Mouth watering, I went in for a late morning fix.

cup-o-homiesnys

Once I placed my order I busied myself with the cup of Homies. Whoever came up with this idea is damned genius, not unlike place mats at Denny’s these little guys kept me entertained as I awaited for my hunk of corn-husk wrapped, tomatillo slathered goodness.

this-is-a-fucking-tamalenys

This is what a Beaner Bar cheese tamale looks like. Note the two salsas to the right. The red one was tasty but a teensy bit mild for my taste. I am very persnickety about my salsas. What’s more I want the most bang for my $3.00, e.g.; I want it to burn coming in and going out. Twenty Four hours later I was happy to learn the green salsa fit the bill perfectly.

eat-itnys

I could resist playing with the Homies as I enjoyed my meal. Here they are cheering me on as I knock back that shot glass of green salsa. In all seriousness (or at least as serious as one can be about eating tamales and playing with Homies) if any of you find yourselves on the other side of the BQE some Sunday afternoon give these bad boys a whirl. The vegans out there reading this take note: they do on occasion serve vegan tamales as well. Check it out!
