New York Shitty Videos du Jour: Kittens!

When I received word from Donna of Dog Habitat Rescue, that Queenie (as seen in the background) had a litter of fetching felines April 30th, I simply had to see the cuddly undulating cluster of kitten cuteness myself. And today— despite a churning stomach (courtesy of food poisoning)— I did. Kittens cure everything!

Here’s the proud mom.

This fellow struck me as being especially handsome.

But photos do not really get the point across— video is much better!

These kittens— and their incredibly sweet mother— will be up for adoption in a few weeks. When they are reasy to make their debut I will post it here!

New York Shitty Day Ender: A Halloween Dog Parade & Adoption Event Reminder

Contrary to what what our fair city’s Park’s web site states (as seen above), this event was in no way organized by Open Space Alliance North Brooklyn. The organizers of this event, that being the awesome folks at District Dog, have assured me of this. In writing.

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: Meet Munchkin

A lass named Monika writes:

I know you posted a while ago about District Dog’s kitten adoption event. I wonder if you can give some publicity to a special needs District Dog resident in need of a foster or permanent home. Two weeks ago, people on a bench in McGolrick Park saw a young man dump a cat into some bushes there. The people intervened and caught the cat, who, it turns out, is blind. They brought him to the great folks at District Dog, who are now urgently looking for someone to adopt or even foster this big boy, whom they are now calling “Munchkin.” The vet checked him out and he is healthy, except for being overweight. Munchkin is estimated to be around 7 years old.

I am doing my best to get the word out about this handsome guy. I’ve been visiting him daily and he’s a sweetheart of a cat, likes to be petted, and from the shop owners’ accounts, he is eating, using the litterpan, and manages to get around the store okay when they let him out for a stretch…

Thanks for any PR you can give this guy!

Anyone interested in giving Munchkin the loving, permanent home home he deserves should contact the folks at District Dog via email, telephone— or simply swing by!

Live From District Dog: Kittens & More!

When I saw the sign in front of District Dog stating there were kittens for adoption I simply HAD to see them.

And see them I did! More specifically: I parsed their naughty bits so as to ascertain their gender. By all appearances this sextet (which all hail from Sutton Street between Norman and Nassau Avenue) is entirely male. Hence why I have named this (incredibly cute) crew the “Greenpoint Sausagefest”. Without further ado here are some photographs and video footage of them. As you will soon see they are absolutely adorable— and VERY adoptable!

NOTE: while alarmed by my ringtone (Beyonce’s solo on Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”) they did not run away. This is something for potential adoptees (be they Beyonce fans, Lady Gaga fans— or both) to consider. These kittens will be up for adoption at District Dog tomorrow. After that they will be hanging their proverbial hat at Dog Habitat. Regardless, these winsome chaps need a home. Maybe yours?

In closing I would be remiss if I did not mention that the previous (and rather rambunctious) crew has a neighbor.

I’ll let a chap we’ll call Ed take it from here:

If you feel so inclined would you mind putting this out on the wire for us? The cat in the attached flyer had been seen wandering around Diamond Street for the last week or so before Dog Habitat was kind enough to scoop her up and take her in. The cat was wearing a collar at first, leading us to believe s/he belongs to someone that may be looking for it.

Here’s the flier.

If anyone knows who this lass (chap?) belongs to or cares to give her (him?) a forever home please contact the fine folks at Dog Habitat at the above-listed telephone number.

Thanks!

THIS SUNDAY: Adoption Event At District Dog

This item was brought to my attention the guys at Dog Habitat. This upcoming Sunday, February 27, they will be conducting an adoption event at their sister business: District Dog. As the above flier states, there will be pups ranging from “tiny to gigantic”. To give you, dear readers, a clearer idea of exactly what this entails (horrible pun completely intended) I am pleased as punch to introduce you to a few pups who will be at this event and are in search of good homes. Maybe yours?

Kiki, who was rescued from a puppy mill

Ella, who was rescued from Brooklyn Animal Care & Control

The name of this handsome little guy eludes me. However, he and his siblings were rescued from a puppy mill in Virginia.

And last, but hardly least, Misty.

If this lass looks familiar to some of you this is because she was found at McGolrick Park a couple weeks ago.

New York Shitty Slide Show Du Jour: District Dog Halloween Parade & Costume Contest

November 1, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic

As promised I have assembled a slide show of yesterday’s festivities for your viewing pleasure. Before I proceed, however, I would like to tender a few thoughts/props.

AC Unit

1. I confided to my fellow judge, Assemblyman Joe Lentol, that I felt the air conditioning unit entry should be given an honorable mention because “I cannot imagine why someone would dress up their dog as one.” To wit he replied:

Maybe it is in heat?

I can honestly say I never thought of that.

Three Legged Squirrel

Peg Leg

2. Two three legged dogs were contestants in this year’s contest. One placed and one received an honorable mention.

Hollywood

3. I really, REALLY liked this entry but was overruled. So it goes.

Janitor and mop

4. I have no idea why this duo, a janitor and his “mop”, didn’t enter. I loved it!

Garden Gnomes

5. This gaggle of garden gnomes gets points for concept but I found the execution lacking. Maybe they’ll take another stab at this next year? I can only hope so.

Lobster in a pot

6. Arguably the most difficult decision was Second Place for best “Group”. It basically came down to this entry, which is absolutely adorable, and the G, L and Z trains. The judges’ collective disgust with the MTA prevailed.

And on that note and without further ado here is the slide show. Enjoy!

As always you can view these images in larger format by clicking here.
