LAST GASP: The 94th Precinct On Yelp
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
I suppose this is common knowledge to some of you but it is news to me. The 94th Precinct has its very own Yelp page. And, well, it is something. Here’s the first review:
I got my first ticket in New York!!!
I.Am.Dangerous.
Wait- I wanna try that again.
I.Am.MOTHERFUCKIN’.Dangerous
My run in with New York’s finest (hee hee hee) went something like this:
Brooks Brother Sweater Wearing Ring Leader: “Lets check out the view of Manhattan from that waterfront”
Me: “Um OK”
Brooks Brother Sweater Wearing Ring Leader: “Lets go on the other side of the BARB WIRE TOPPED (sic) fence”
Me: “Umm Ok”
Brooks Brother Sweater Wearing Ring Leader: “Lets go sit on that PRECARIOUSLY BALANCED DISGUSTING LOOKING (sic) log”
Me: “No way. I am far too cute to go any further and risk stepping on a hypodermic needle or falling into that skanky ‘waterfront’ or… SHIT its the Po-Po. I’m gonna be pissed if I get a ticket or a fine. Oh sure, you don’t have anything to worry about, but its hard out here for a sista’.
(Three cops roll up in a cruiser and get out)
Cop #1: “Are you aware that you are trespassing?” blah, blah, blah
Cop #2: “Do you have identification?”
Me: “Are you kidding me? Are you really gonna give us tickets?”
Cop #1: “Thinkin’ about it”
Me: “I guess I better cut back on the attitude then”
Cop #2: (a smile and a nod)
IGOTATICKETFORTRESSPASSING!!! But, the Police were efficient and very nice. (And Cop #2 informed me that the ticket would probably be thrown out AND he apologized AND encouraged my picture taking of the absent “No Trespassing Zone” sign)
I want to bake those boys cookies.I got my first ticket in New York!!!

Trust me: it gets even better from there. Be sure to read the second item where a disgruntled citizen calls Denis Leary a “Stupid Boston Jerk” because (among other things) he won’t come out of his trailer and sign autographs. I am not making this shit up. This is North Brooklyn at its very finest, folks. Reading is believing.

P.S.: For the love of god Mr. Leary give Gary L. your autograph already! Shit, give him his own damned television show!

Spotted On Norman Avenue: Cop Piece
I have noticed activity at the cool old storefront at 94 Norman Avenue of late. Today after work I decided to swing by again and see what’s up.
It would appear that starting tomorrow night St John’s Theatre will be hosting four consecutive weekends of “Cop Piece”: a series about “Cops and Coping” with live poetry readings from Edgar Oliver before every show. By all appearances this show appears to be free, however a $10 donation is recommended for beer and wine.

Those of you looking for an inexpensive way to while away the upcoming weekend(s)— or are simply curious as to what this space looks like (I certainly am) might want to give this a whirl. If you do, let me know what you think!

This lovely lady is named Jasmine. As you can see she takes her responsibilities at her place of work (the newsstand at the corner of Norman Avenue) very seriously. This image comes courtesy of the camera of Jay Lombard of Dog Habitat. Great capture!
Closing on a related note, I would like to remind everyone that Dog Habitat’s upcoming fundraiser, “Poker Unleashed”, is scheduled for this upcoming Sunday, April 11, 2010 starting 2:30 p.m. I have it on good intelligence there are still a few slots left. Those of you who are interested in participating should contact the guys (and gals) of Dog Habitat via email at: pokerunleashed (at) gmail (dot) com. Thanks!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Fan of Fanaberie
I have a confession to make: I do not like to shop. Among other things I rarely have money to outlay on such niceties as handbags, jewelry, etc., and what’s more, after dealing with shoppers several days a week I care not to join their ranks. However, I have been hearing a lot of buzz about this establishment and feel compelled to pass some of it along here. Monika writes:
Dear Miss Heather,
I haven’t seen any mention in your blog of Fanaberie (102-A Nassau Avenue between Leonard and Eckford). It’s a new clothing/accessories store run by a LOVELY Polish woman. I know you are interested in supporting local businesses and I thought you might want to check it out. I just bought a fabulous bracelet for 20 bucks (!!) and a few weeks ago, found the “wallet of my dreams” (modern style, big but not too big, and non-leather!) for $25. I think this place will appeal to both the Polish and non-Polish community (if only they give it a look). Anyhow, I was so inspired after my visit there today that I wrote a review for Yelp…FYI — http://www.yelp.com/biz/fanaberie-brooklyn
This is a ringing endorsement if I have ever read one. Methinks I will have to bite the bullet and check this place out!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: 74 Kent Street Raided?
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
Last night I received a number of emails regarding helicopter activity along the waterfront. I have a creeping suspicion the following email (from someone who wishes to remain anonymous) might have some thing to do with this. Anonymous writes:
…I know first hand that there was a DEA /SWAT team raid on the building last night. There were several vans of fully armed and armored agents in addition to a handful of stereotypical nondescript white guy spooks. Several people were arrested and the street between franklin and west was closed well into the early morning as they were seizing evidence from the building and using sledge hammers to do it… It’s truly strange days around here now. Ms. Kim of the river barrel was a witness to some of this as well. I’ll let you know more when I know more.
74 Kent Street is home to DL Laboratories: a business dealing which deals with caulks, sealants and other such stuff. I can hardly wait to hear what this is about. Sheesh…
Miss Heather
UPDATE, 11:43 p.m.: per the New York Post one of the purported ringleaders of this Quaalude ring is Thomas Fairley. It shouldn’t come as surprising news that he is the owner of 74 Kent Street. For more reading about the “big bust” in Greenpoint click here. Apparently a substance abuse counselor from our public school system has been arrested as well. Nice.
