Live From District Dog: Kittens & More!

When I saw the sign in front of District Dog stating there were kittens for adoption I simply HAD to see them.
And see them I did! More specifically: I parsed their naughty bits so as to ascertain their gender. By all appearances this sextet (which all hail from Sutton Street between Norman and Nassau Avenue) is entirely male. Hence why I have named this (incredibly cute) crew the “Greenpoint Sausagefest”. Without further ado here are some photographs and video footage of them. As you will soon see they are absolutely adorable— and VERY adoptable!
NOTE: while alarmed by my ringtone (Beyonce’s solo on Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”) they did not run away. This is something for potential adoptees (be they Beyonce fans, Lady Gaga fans— or both) to consider. These kittens will be up for adoption at District Dog tomorrow. After that they will be hanging their proverbial hat at Dog Habitat. Regardless, these winsome chaps need a home. Maybe yours?

If you feel so inclined would you mind putting this out on the wire for us? The cat in the attached flyer had been seen wandering around Diamond Street for the last week or so before Dog Habitat was kind enough to scoop her up and take her in. The cat was wearing a collar at first, leading us to believe s/he belongs to someone that may be looking for it.

At Large In Greenpoint: Spiff

I just received this the above photograph of Spiff the cats from her very upset owner, Stephanie. She writes:
Heather,
Our 12 year old cat just escaped from our car on Greenpoint and Leonard Street between Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street (My boyfriend ran out of gas, chaos ensued, cat jumped out the car window.) I am hoping she is still in that area, but she might try to get back to our place on Franklin between Green and Huron. Would you mind posting her picture and a plea for people to contact us if they spot her? Her name is Spiff. She has grey stripes, a white chin and green eyes. She has a zitty thing on her chin right now from the food bowl. She is very sweet.

Has Anyone Seen Javi?
Earlier today a reader commented that north Brooklyn seems to have a lot of lost cats of late. If my inbox is any indication, this would definitely appear to be case. Tania, who brought the handsome chap to the the left to my attention writes:
Hi Miss Heather,
hope you are doing well! My wonderful neighbor’s cat went missing on Sunday night on the corner of North 5th and Bedford Ave, I hate to bug you but was hoping if you had a chance you could post this on your site, it would be greatly appreciated. She is very very upset and is going crazy looking for Javier.
Included in Tania’s email was a link to an advertisement on Craigslist enlisting help for Javi’s safe return. It reads as follows:
LOST: All Black male cat, about 4 years old. Responds to Javier or Javi (“ha-vee”). Short hair but with a big fluffy tail and exceptionally large head. Has a red collar with a red heart rabies tag from Pennsylvania animal hospital. Last seen in the building 132 North 5th St (at Bedford) Sunday AM, June 20. 4th floor. He’s very trusting and loving so may have wandered out of the house and into someone else’s care for the time being, as it was very hot!! May have left if the door was accidentally left open by a guest or have escaped out the window onto the neighboring balcony. Either way, he is an indoor cat (does have his claws though he never uses them) and he never wanders far on the few occasions he got out before – is scared of being outside alone. He has large, beautiful yellow eyes.

Found On Huron Street: A Kitty
G (who sent me the above photograph) writes:
We found this guy wondering around our back yard here at 149 Huron. We thought he might be a neighborhood cat, but, he was there for two days (we fed him of course). Anyway, one of our neighbors took finally talked the guys at Brooklyn Unleashed into keeping him. He is really really sweet, not an ounce of aggression. If we didn’t have two already we would have adopted him. Anyway, if anyone is missing this little guy, that is where he is or if you want to give him a good home!

From the New York Shitty Inbox: Another Catnapping?

Friday night I shared with you the good news about Larry the bodega cat’s (who can be seen at left) heroic rescue and return to his rightful owner. I will not lie to you: I was ecstatic when I saw his “mom” toting him back home. Unfortunately my revelry was short-lived. You see, I awakened the next morning to find a most troubling email in my inbox. Jason writes:
Hey Heather:
I don’t know if you have heard about the store cat over at Pets on the Run (989 Manhattan btwn Huron and India)? It seems that either last week or early this week the good proprietor’s cat was stolen. When I went in there at the beginning of this week to get some cat food he was telling another customer the whole story and he was pretty broken up about the whole affair. I am wondering if there are any connections between Larry’s journey and this? The businesses are quite close to the cat vortex….
Obviously it cannot be established if the same person who took Larry (whose intentions were good, if misguided) has taken our dear Lucas (who can be seen with proud papa, Zohar, below).
Nonetheless I find this to be a very, very worrisome trend. What part of DO NOT TAKE SOMEONE ELSE’S PET does the perpetrator of this, Manhattan Avenue’s latest catnapping, not understand?

No name for this lovely tuxedo lady was provided but given she sports a couple extra toes and “crooked tail” that should make her easily identifiable.
