I ran into one of my old friends tonight and while we were talking about our recent life events, some guy and his girl apparently were arguing in front of the AT&T store in the triangle of Bedford/Nassau/Lorimer. Some other guy on a bike decides to be righteously angry and cold cocks the guy in the face as he rode by. The guy who was punched got knocked cold and hit his head on the bike rack (those upside down U shaped pipe things bolted to the sidewalk that nobody uses) on the way down splitting the back of his head open. Lotsa blood and freaked the g/f out. We called 911, four 94th pc’s showed, FDNY, ambulance, etc. We split once the authorities showed
Description of assailant was white, young, white t-shirt, green army pants on a crappy bike.
Sorry to bring yet another bike shit thing, but…
Hope the dude who got hit is ok, he looked pretty awful.
Never a dull moment in the Garden Spot.

New York Shitty Day Starter: WTF?
This hails from one of the many (and identical) moving trucks I saw on Manhattan Avenue yesterday. Methinks the intent was to be cute. Personally I find it creepy.

New York Shitty Day Ender: Lorimer Street
If I were a kid and looking at what’s going on with all the college graduates this year, and how tough it is to get a job, I think I might want to get an education because I don’t want to spend the rest of my life not being able to make a living.
— Bloomberg on why kids should pay full fare
I agree (with tongue firmly in cheek). What’s more, maybe they’ll learn to spell your name correctly when they tell you to fuck off Mike.

Quote props: a big New York Shitty shout out of gratitude goes to Kevin Walsh of Forgotten New York for forwarding this corker of a quote to my attention. For those of you seeking more crapola commentary from our fair mayor look no further. Read this. Which comes courtesy of Pa Heather. Pa Heather opines:
It is pathetic when something like this happens and all the flaming assholes come out of the wood work.
Indeed.
Reader Contribution Du Jour: The McCarren Park Ladies Restroom Goes High Tech
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
It’s been awhile since the I have revisited the matter of the deplorable state of McCarren Park’s “comfort stations“. This is in some part because I have been busy. But mostly it is because it grosses me out. Big time.
Soap scum on the soap holder.
Nothing new here.
The “Caution” tape has been removed.
Yet there still appears to be a problem.
But we have a spiffy new eco-friendly and awareness-raising hand drier!
I can only imagine what’s next. Educational bidets perhaps? I can only hope so. They’d be a fount of knowledge!

P.S.: Special props go to Laura Hofmann for these pix. The stagnant water in the bucket shot literally made me gag. And I have seen a lot of serious nasty shit in my time. Mazel tov!

Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Nature’s Revenge
My hat goes off to the peeps at Red Rose & Lavender (and Nature’s Revenge) for tickling yours truly pink with their ongoing and incredibly delightful re-purposing of this derelict construction site. Bravo!

Greenpoint Street Art Du Jour: Manhattan Avenue
I featured a piece not unlike this one not too long ago. In my post I asserted the woman in question was Veronica Lake. A number of readers disagreed with my assessment and in light of more, um, information I agree with them. My educated guess is this is Janet Leigh. Thoughts, anyone?

UPDATE, June 13, 2010: My mom nailed it. She is Anita Ekberg. So there have you!
Greenpoint Restaurant Watch: Bombay Garden Update
I have a confession to make: I have been casing this— Greenpoint’s first and only Indian restaurant— for weeks in the hope I would learn when they are going to open. Each and every time I have walked away disappointed. UNTIL TODAY!
I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that “2020” is a typo. Only one more week, folks! In the meantime you can peruse their menu by clicking here.
