I went to this event last year. I was not in the least bit disappointed! It was a most enjoyable evening. For this reason I strongly recommend— even if you cannot afford their wares (which are absolutely stunning)— that you go! You’ll meet some of the most talented (and downright nice) crafters and kiln cats in the Garden Spot!

To close on a related note my photography show at t.b.d. is bravely marching forward. Last night I finalized my selections, burned ’em onto cds and today I will get them developed. Truth be told, it was damned difficult to pick and choose among the several thousand photographs I have taken over the years. It was downright frustrating. In any case, I think Greenpointers, Williamsburgers, and East ‘Burgers in particular will enjoy what I picked. These works will be for sale, priced to delight and move at $25.00 and up; and if all goes to plan a portion of the proceeds will go towards some of my favorite causes:
- Empty Cages Collective
- North Brooklyn Cats (which is involved in a very ambitious animal rescue project in Long Island City. You can anticipate a post about this in the future!)
- Dog Habitat
- The McCarren Dog Run

Laura (who sent me this hilarious item which hails from the Duane Reade at 893 Manhattan Avenue) writes in an email entitled “It was only a matter of time”:
I always knew that oxygen would be sold in Greenpoint one day. Maybe Duane Reed will be selling gas masks next?

‘Tis The Season: 648 Humboldt Street
Since the afternoon proved to be sunny— if a bit brisk— I decided to go out for a walk. And in so doing I spied a number of homeowners busy hanging garlands, Christmas lights and other holiday mirth on their homes. When I finally reached my destination, 648 Humboldt Street (which some of you might recall are no slouches in the Halloween decoration department), I was pleased to find their holiday cheer in full swing.
Carousels, ferris wheels, candy canes, lollipops, ginger bread people and a nativity with Mr. and Mrs Claus presiding over the mirthmaking on the second floor.
All in all it is quite an impressive sight— but photographs don’t quite do it justice. Follows is a little video footage to help you appreciate the feast of the five senses that is 648 Humboldt. Enjoy!
I want to give a New York Shitty shout-out to the peeps of 648 Humboldt Street for this, their best Christmas display ever! In addition I would like to tender my heartfelt condolences to the residents of 646 and 650 Humboldt; I don’t think I could handle listening to that Christmas music ALL DAY.

New York Shitty Day Starter: Mystery Train

Yesterday I finally met up with a very nice reporter. She is working on article which will hit the stands next year (January 2010). Among the numerous questions she asked me while taking in the marvel that is a very packed junk shop was one regarding what I like to collect. This was a very prescient question given that anyone I’ve ever known who worked at a thrift store is invariably a “collector” of one thing or another. I am no exception— but do try to keep my acquisitions as portable (and cat proof) as possible. I stick to photographs nowadays. I have acquired quite a collection over the years. Many are of a highly “adult” nature and as such are unsuitable to publish here. But some are. Like the following negative that I managed to finesse into a positive last night.
14th Street Local with two proud employees. I’m guessing this is the L train— but who knows? I’ll leave it to you, dear readers, to render a verdict. To this end I will leave with a slide show of my mystery train and mystery men. Enjoy!

I don’t know about you but on days such as this I wish I had a fireplace to lounge around and roast some marshmallows. I have grown to accept this will probably never happen. No worries: James sent me some toasty carbecque porn to warm up my cold, wet bones.

I don’t know on both counts, James, but one does have to appreciate “Anthony’s” entrepreneurial moxie. Perhaps someone will call him to pick up this charbroiled sedan given it has been in stasis for six days? One can only hope!
