The Word On The Street, Part II: Special DIY Edition

I am going to go out on a limb here and prognosticate that these missives are not D.O.T./city issue. Nonetheless, one does have to admire the craftsmanship. The party/parties responsible for these missive managed to actually drill these into said light post. I cannot imagine this was an easy task. That’s good ol’ Garden Spot ingenuity for you!

Urban Artifact, Part II: 139 Days & Counting

Yours truly’s favorite urban artifact (and de facto mascot for the Garden Spot) is not only upright once again, but he (?) has received an offering in the form of a toilet handle. Fascinating.

Stranger 51/100 | Easter Parade in New York

This finely fettled fellow hails from yesterday’s Easter Parade. Michael Tapp, who had the pleasure of making this man’s acquaintance writes:

On Easter Sunday the city shuts down part of 5th avenue for the Easter Parade. No obnoxious vendors and halal, people just strut down 5th avenue in their Sunday best.

I spotted this man from a distance and I knew he would be a great subject. He knew exactly what to do and I didn’t have to direct him at all. I wanted to find out more about him but he went off to start posing for shots with children and other people. He actually reached out to people to get them in photos with him. He’s actually a pretty joyful guy.

Urban Fur: Going Out Of Business

bartek

Bartek presides over the final day of his place of emplnjoyment: Just For Fun. For those of you who are not in the know this establishment (which has graced the Garden Spot for over a decade) has been a personal favorite of yours truly over the years. Whenever I needed, say, several pairs of fake giant rubber breasts or the odd inflatable companion they delivered— with a smile and the occasional bark. I was so impressed I authored my first Yelp review as a result. Read it. (It is a much more awesome testament to this establishment than this post).

So long Barbara and Bartek. May you enjoy your retirement in sunny Florida. You will be missed.
