Reader Contribution Du Jour: Twelve
The number twelve is interesting for a number of reasons.
- There are twelve apostles.
- There are twelve months in a year.
- Twelve ounces is the usual amount of beer per can in any given six pack.
Unless you’re in Greenpoint. We kick it up a notch. Hence why I found the following item in my inbox from this, the twelfth month of this year, compelling.
Jay Lombard (who sent me the above photograph) writes in an email entitled Party in a phone booth:
Corner of Norman and Manhattan. It was either one really long conversation (long enough to consume a dozen bottles of alcohol) or 12 people had a party in this phone booth.
I’m guessing the previous— but given the Zeitgeist in the Garden Spot nowadays who’s to say? In any case I’d feel remiss if I didn’t close this post with the following George Thorogood classic.
And this.

Greenpoint Street Seating Du Jour: Distinguished on Dupont
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Street Furniture
When I saw this downright elegant specimen on Dupont Street today I simply could not resist sharing it for all to enjoy. A new decade will upon us soon enough and you know what they say:
Out with the old and in with the new!
Nonetheless, I cannot shake the suspicion that Ikea had a hand in this forlorn love seat’s ignominious end.

Greenpoint Recession Watch: Pencil Factory Lofts Gets Served
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Recession
I have been queried by a number of people lately about the status of the Pencil Factory Lofts (as seen above). Some of you might remember this site has been troubled this year: among other things, work was stalled back in May and a new construction company was purportedly brought in to complete it. Well, long story made short, it would appear that work has halted once again. Exactly why, I do not know. When will it resume, you ask? That’s anyone’s guess. But taking into account what I found at their former sales office this afternoon I’d hazard to say the prognosis isn’t looking very good.
In post-real estate boom Greenpoint eviction papers are the new black!
