Leonard Is Lost!

Bob writes:

Our cat somehow escaped from my apartment in Greenpoint yesterday morning and we’re desperate to find him.  Would you be able to post something on your blog?  His name is Leonard and he disappeared from our apartment on the south side of Milton Street, near Franklin.  We asked around and a couple people have told us that they saw him in the backyards between Milton and Noble, though one woman told us that she saw him on Noble Street, headed towards Manhattan (all sightings were last night, Weds 8/13).  He is an extremely large (though not fat or fluffy — he’s more big-boned and muscular) all-black cat with pretty green eyes.

This could describe a lot of cats, but Leonard’s distinguishing characteristic is his size — people have said that he looks like a black panther.  He’s very friendly, though, and he’s probably very scared right now, as he’s never really been outdoors before.  I’ve attached a picture, and anyone who sees him can contact me at rghammond (at) gmail (dot) com.  We’re offering a reward for anyone who finds him.

If you have seen Leonard please contact Bob immediately. Thanks!

A cat is lost on Guernsey near Meserole… The owner gave me a flier and she seemed quite upset about losing Colby so perhaps you can get the word out?

If any of you have seen Colby, please contact his person at either of the above telephone numbers.

On the other end of the Garden Spot Animal Planet will be hosting an adoption event featuring the felines of Linda’s Feral Cat Assistance from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. I have no word what the resident shop kitten, Kobe (depicted at right) thinks about this, but I suspect he will be none too happy about sharing his domain.

Brooklyn Born & Bred: The Stooges

July 16, 2008 ·
Filed under: Crazy Cat Lady, Williamsburg

It’s July. It is hot and humid. Nothing is going on and yet we have to work. For the previous reasons I decided it would be nice to kick off this Wednesday with a little light entertainment.

Lisa (of Empty Cages Collective) could not for the life of her name these three kittens. After observing them pommeling each other and generally spazzing out it became obvious to me: Lenny, Moe and Curly. The Three Stooges. After some discussion Lisa and I decided Shemp was out— which is a shame because he is and will always be my favorite stooge*. In any case, here they are in action.

Anyone interested in adopting these fellas should contact Empty Cages Collective at emptycagescollective (at) gmail (dot) com.

Life was much more civilized back then. Make pies, not war!

*Moe and Shemp were born in Bensonhurst. Curly at Bath Beach!

Meet Jake

It’s tough being young buck at an adoption event teeming with kittens. This was certainly the case yesterday for Jake at Empty Cages Collective’s first adoption event at The Beehive Salon.

How can a tough-looking 1 1/2 year old chap possibly compete with this?

Or this?

It is a shame actually, because Jake is an exceptionally friendly guy. Unlike his fellow kittens who were a bit skittish having people look at them and pick them up, he took it all in stride. If any of you are looking to adopt a feline friend who has known life on the mean streets of Brooklyn and has a heart of gold, Jake is your man. Not only does he have a great temperament, but he sports some of the most beautiful orange eyes I have ever seen. Jake has been neutered, is up-to-date on his shots and is ready to come home with you today!

Anyone interested in giving Jake a home should contact Empty Cages Collective via email at emptycagescollective (at) gmail (dot) com.

Squirrel is quite the spitfire, much to her neighbor Vera’s confusion as you will see in this short video taken from my visit to The Beehive today to meet the lovely kittens of Empty Cages Collective. I am pleased to announce that both of these lovely ladies having applications for adoptions pending, but there are still plenty lovely cats needing homes. I will be featuring an especially sweet adoptable tomorrow, so stay tuned!

I Am A Bad Feminist

June 27, 2008 ·
Filed under: Crazy Cat Lady, Crazy People, Greenpoint Magic

I have found myself asking this question more and more of late. When I leave my apartment building I am harassed by construction workers on a regular basis. When I take photographs men try to intimidate me. I have been hissed at, kissed at and physically threatened in person. Online I have been called a bitch, a witch, a cunt and someone who needs a good “vagina pounding”. Does this sound like equality to you?

I aspire to be called an asshole, dick head, son of a bitch or motherfucker. In terms of physical violence, I want the threat of a good ass kicking, not a hate fuck. I am married woman. I want to be monogamous. Is this too much to ask? I think not.

Gloria Steinem said anyone against Hillary Clinton was anti-woman. I guess I am anti-woman too. Who knew? In any case, here’s a choice tidbit I found from the March 11, 1870 edition of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle to remind us that womens’ rights are quite a novel thing.

When someone says to me:

Hey Heather, you motherfucking dick-headed son of a bitch asshole I want to kick your fucking ass.

I know I have achieved equality with my male peers and will dissipate into a cloud of feminist pixie dust. Until then I will rant. And be a cunt whose sole aspiration in life is to be an asshole. Feminism is dead— if you want it to be. I’ll keep on fighting, thank you very much.

Cocksucker.
